Little Jack and Sweeney Doo

I realized that I'd never gotten around to putting up pictures of some of my creations! I make ~6 inch dolls, and am one of those people who goes crazy about details. Each one took a couple days due to the fact that EVERYTHING is hand sown- almost all clothes were made full removable to allow for different methods of washing, which meant that not everything fits just right, but it also means that the dolls will last longer.

Murf? I'm Spock?!

Sir Elton!~

Here he is, my fabulous new betta fish... The rainbow-riffic Sir Elton!

http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0146pu8.jpg

He is so completely full of himself- he'll stare at his reflection, beg, stare, beg, rinse and repeat. And he won't let a silly thing like 'look before you swim' get in his way. Within minutes of putting him in the tank, he had already figured out a game to make me pull my hair out- "lets see how close I can get to the filter before it starts to suck in my fins!" approach, stop, little closer, stop, little closer, etc. He also discovered that the heater's suction cups make a great jungle gym and that he can not, in fact, fit between the heater, gravel and wall. Already had to rescue him and reposition the heater.

He also 'surfs', aka swimming directly into the filter inlet stream. Such a silly little fishy. But I loves him soo.... And the fry are doing well. I think there's 5 survivors, but I'm not sure.

FRY!!!

After a month of careful maintenance, I found four red wagtail swordtail fry! It's been a battle- mom got an ich infection early on (a kind of skin parasite) and there was some kind of nitrate explosion (nitrates are the end product of the processing of fish poo by bacteria- they aren't horrific for fish, but in large enough quantities can be toxic) I was worried that her body would reabsorb them and we'd have to wait another month.

But now they're here! They're about the size of a grain of rice, and rather slow swimming- until another fish comes by, then they're like little rockets! I'm sure there's more swimming in the plants that I just haven't found yet, as swordtails can have dozens of fry at once.
Even though they're probably less than 24 hours old, I can already see some of their parents' markings. SO CUTE!!!

Christmas time!

I've had a great Christmas- full of friends and family and laughs. Although it wasn't a huge Christmas, that's not what's important- we all had a blast together.

I, as usual, ended up with lots of clothing I didn't ask for- but mom, being the great judge she is, didn't get anything I'd want to return. I got a lot of things out of a great catalog called 'What on Earth'- I got a hoodie, three T's, a book on raising and keeping dragons and a figurine set.

Of course, the hoodie had 'DEUTSCHLAND' and the German coat of arms on it, because I am that much of a German nerd. The graphic T's are awesome-
"I've entered THE TWILIGHT ZONE", "No one ever suspects the short ones" (5'2'' humor), and "What I really need are minions."
The figurines are a set of ten little dragons statues is beyond adorable (I haven't a clue what they're made of- they range from 3/4'' high to almost 2'' high and are made of a metal that can be bent by hand); the one chewing on his claw looks very contemplative. So cute ^^
There were also a new set of pajamas and the most adorable little dragon plush EVER.

The five of us (mum, dad, my sister, her boyfriend and I) all came around the tree and took turns opening presents. There were wrapping paper fights and the dogs ended up wearing two or three ribbons a piece before the day was through. As always, there was a chocolate pudding cake to be had- and lots of laughs over various resulting reindeer noses and mustaches.

It was a fun Christmas, with lots of memories. It makes me fell really grateful to have all these gifts when many children don't- and that I've been fortunate enough to never have to live on the street. We need to open our hearts to others- and help them have a holiday celebration of their own.

Here's hoping you, too, had a Merry Fishmas!

YIPPEE CANOODLE! I heard a rumor about this, but it's true! Tim Burton is remaking Alice in Wonderland!

Is anybody else anticipating this film?

School's Out For Summer!

As of yesterday, at 12:27 pm, my Freshmen Year ended- come Monday I'll walk in to my summer school a full fledged Sophomore. I'm taking summer school because I don't want to pick between my electives, and the only way to avoid it is to take a core during the summer. Still, four hours of school is a lot better than seven.

All in all, things seem to be doing well.
The Rules: List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.
